Gareth Barry was last night named as Midlands footballer of the year beating players such as former Villan Kevin Phillips to the award.
England star Barry was second for the biggest award of the night which was the BBC Midlands Sports Personality of the Year. He narrowly missed out to British speedway champion Chris 'Bomber' Harris.
Barry has had a fantastic year which included a call up to the full England squad in which he was named in the starting line-up towards the end of the qualification campaign. He received wide acclaim from a series of pundits and won a couple of man of the match awards.
He also captained Villa for the whole of last season and is currently leading the Claret and Blue in their search for European football.
Well done Gareth!
