As if John Terry needed any more bad publicity.
The Chelsea captain made an appauling tackle on James Milner on Saturday, which only served to emphasise his apparent lack of loyalty to team-mates at both club and with country.
Terry slammed into Milner without a hint of regard for the future of his fellow England star.
The Villa winger was extremely fortunate not to have seen his leg snap in two and what then? One of this country's most promising players would have been ruled out for at least six months.
Milner wouldn't have made the World Cup, but would Terry have cared? He now seems lacking in loyalty when it comes to those who take to the field alongside him.
And to add salt to the wounds Terry declared that he has spoken to the Villa ace but will not apologise for the tackle. Why not? It was shameful and Milner at least deserved a sorry.
Terry, just like Tiger Woods has had to over the past few months, should get down off his high horse and admit when he is wrong.
Just because he's a professional footballer does that entitle him to throw his morals out of the window?
Milner is not a nasty player, he wouldn't engage in any form of retribution. And he would never have made a tackle like that and not apologised for it.
He is a man who is just happy to be on the pitch playing the game he has been in love with since he was a young boy.
Unfortunately it seems that Terry has lost sight of that and Fabio Capello's decision to strip him of the England captaincy is looking like the right one.
How can you have a skipper who nearly breaks one of his team-mates legs and then refuses to apologise? You can't.
Milner definitely won't do a Wayne Bridge and quit the international setup, meaning he will be lining up alongside Terry this summer on the biggest stage.
So, let's just hope that the former England leader gets back to his best both on and off the field.
