Aston Villa face a trip to The Valley on Wednesday evening, hoping to improve upon an average previous return from this fixture. Of the 26 games played, Villa have recorded eight wins, while Charlton Athletic have come away with ten victories.
However, Villa took six points from the fixtures between the sides last season and in the corresponding game in March they came away with a narrow 2-1 win. Villa newboy, Carlton Cole scored the Addicks' only goal.

Recent respective form guides
Charlton have collected two wins and three draws from their last six home matches. The goals for column just outweighs the goals against over this period, nine to eight.
The away form of Aston Villa however, is much more impressive, unbeaten in their last six, consisting of three wins and three draws. The games have constituted a decent return of 12 goals for the Villans, while conceeding just five goals.
However, the last game in this impressive run came in a limp performance at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday when Villa struttered to a 1-1 draw. Charlton have also disappointed but after falling to a heavy opening day defeat at Bolton Wanderers, they bounced back, albeit rather fortuitously, against Portsmouth at The Valley on Saturday when Shaka Hislop allowed a back header from David Unsworth to creep under his body.

FootyMad's prediction ...
Villa's excellent series of efforts out on the road could see them pinch all three points against Charlton. A narrow 2-1 victory would not be a surprise, though a 1-1 draw wouldn't either. Much depends upon the return of Juan Pablo Angel. Score draw

The Opposing Viewpoint:
Dave Robson of www.CharltonAthletic-Mad.co.uk agrees with our prediction of 1-1 and expects it will be an entertaining game. He suggests Villa watch out for speedy winger Dennis Rommendahl and the human Toby Jug, Francis Jeffers. The former Arsenal man is not a definite starter but came on for the last ten minutes on Saturday and looked very sharp. He would not relish a goal from ex-player Carlton Cole.
