Angel one year left on his contract at Villa park but Martin O'Neill had already made it clear he would not prevent the 31-year-old from leaving. The MLS side have reportedly offered to continue his £40k-per-week wage for a two-year spell. "Maybe now Angel feels the upper echelons of the Premiership might be eluding him but there could be a great chance to start a new life in America," O'Neill meowed. "He lost his place in the side just after Christmas but ever since then his attitude has been great."
Angel scored 44 goals in 175 league games at Villa Park after signing in a for £9.5m from River Plate in January 2001. His high point came in 2003-2004 when he scored 23 goals, as Villa missed out on a UEFA Cup place on goal difference to Newcastle but with the arrivals of Ashley Young and John Carew, and emergence of Gabby Agbonlahor and Luke Moore, he has been frozen out this season. He joins former Manchester City midfielder and USA captain Claudio Reyna in New Jersey.
