Aston Villa travel to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, looking to earn just a second win in eight outings.
Steven Gerrard's men have, however, rediscovered some zip to overcome a really rough patch of form around the turn of the year, and are now on a run of three games without defeat. A 2-2 draw with Manchester United and a 1-0 victory over Everton have been followed by a thrilling point against Leeds in midweek, in which the Villans were held to a 3-3 draw after having led 3-1.
Another tough test lies in wait this weekend, as they travel north to face a Newcastle side unbeaten in four Premier League games, winning their previous two. Here's how Gerrard could set out his side.
Aston Villa predicted lineup vs Newcastle
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Emiliano Martinez (GK) - Aston Villa and Argentina number one Martinez has missed just one Premier League fixture this term.
Matty Cash (RB) - The dynamic full-back has featured in all of his side's league outings this campaign, missing just 15 minutes of action in the process.
Calum Chambers (CB) - Ezri Konsa is suspended, opening the door for Chambers to make his full debut at Newcastle.
Tyrone Mings (CB) - Has started the last three since missing Villa's defeat against Brentford, and will inevitably skipper the side again here.
Lucas Digne (LB) - Villa's upturn in form has coincided with Digne making his debut - read into that what you will.
2. Midfielders
John McGinn (CM) - His tenacity and drive are key components of this Aston Villa side; it's no surprise Gerrard loves him.
Douglas Luiz (CM) - In what will surely be an unchanged midfield, Gerrard will likely stick with the Brazilian at the heart of the team.
Jacob Ramsey (CM) - Ramsey's brace in midweek made it three goals and an assist in his last three appearances. A special talent in sensational form - Gareth Southgate will undoubtedly be taking notice.
3. Forwards
Emiliano Buendia (RW) - Has really picked up his form of late and, even if Leon Bailey is nearing a full return, he'll be confident of making a spot in the front three his own.
Ollie Watkins (ST) - No goal in four Premier League outings but will always put himself about.
Philippe Coutinho (LW) - So good to see the little magician tearing it up again. He's had a phenomenal impact since his arrival, notching two goals and two assists in three matches.
