Aston Villa will be looking for at least £80m for captain Jack Grealish when the transfer window opens as they look to stand strong, with Manchester United continuing to show interest.
Grealish has been Villa's star man in a difficult first season back in the Premier League, which has left Dean Smith's men sat in 19th place in the table. The Englishman has been hugely impressive though, grabbing nine goals as well as providing eight assists in all competitions in 2019/20.
As a result of his fine form, he has begun to attract interest from elsewhere - most notably from United United. A source confirmed to 90min in March that Grealish is one of United's three main transfer targets this summer, along with Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
The Mail, however, now report that should United wish to land his signature at the end of the season, they will have to part ways with no less than £80m. Should Smith's men manage to stay in the Premier League for the 2020/21 season, there is still a hope that their captain will stay put.
But if they were to be relegated, the Daily Mail note that it appears 'unlikely' that he would spend another season in the Championship, especially considering his targets include playing for the national team and featuring in the Champions League.
Whatever happens, Villa saw the Red Devils part ways with £80m to bring in Harry Maguire last summer after Leicester stood firm, and they will look to do the same with Grealish if push comes to shove.
United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has previously admitted that it may not be 'business as usual' in the transfer market this summer as a result of the coronavirus pandemic – with some reports that the club had been put off moving for Grealish when he broke lockdown regulations earlier in the spring.
However, 90min quickly learned that this was not the case. In fact, the Red Devils hoped to be able to secure a slightly cheaper deal - but this will likely be contingent on whether Villa remain in the top flight or not.
