Aston Villa will be without midfielder Stiliyan Petrov and right-back Luke Young for the home clash with Burnley.
Nigel Reo-Coker is favourite to take over the captain's armband from Petrov, who is expected to be out for at least two months with a knee problem, while Steve Sidwell is poised for a rare start in midfield.
Striker Gabriel Agbonlahor will also miss the Clarets' visit in the fourth round as he continues his recovery from a groin operation.
The 24-year-old had hoped to be fit for Sunday's Premier League derby against Birmingham at Villa Park, but boss Gerard Houllier has now targeted a November 6 return for the player against Fulham.
Burnley will be without suspended defender Leon Cort for their Carling Cup clash at Aston Villa.
Cort was sent off for two yellow card offences in Saturday's 4-0 home defeat to Reading and sits out with a one-game ban.
But Clarke Carlisle makes a timely return following his three-match ban and is expected to step straight in for Cort.
Manager Brian Laws has no new injury worries but hinted at changes following the disappointing display against Reading.
Laws said: "If anyone drops out of this side there is another one knocking on the door and I might have six or seven players knocking on my door now. We'll wait and see."
The Clarets upset local rivals Bolton in the previous round thanks to Wade Elliott's solitary goal.
