Martin O'Neill is set to offer star midfielder Gareth Barry a lucrative new contract in a bid to keep him at the club.
Barry, who has one year remaining on a £47,000 a week deal, will be offered a massive increase of £28,000 a week to stay in the Midlands and forget a move to Liverpool or Tottenham.
The England maestro is thought to be keen to leave the club in order to fulfil his aspirations of playing Champions League football and winning silverware.
But there a many key reasons why Barry should seriously consider his future before moving away from Villa Park and here are the top three:
3. Club Captaincy
Barry is the natural successor to the retired Martin Laursen in the role of skipper at Villa Park. He took over from the Dane in January and has not looked back.
He would undoubtedly be given the captaincy next season should he stay at the club. Could any other team offer him that position?
2. First Team Football
Many English stars have moved from mid-table sides to members of the Premier League big four and many have failed to cement a place in the squad let alone the first team.
Barry is a quality player and his talents would be wasted on the bench. Players like Scott Parker and Damien Duff have suffered because of moves to bigger clubs and Villa's talisman will not want to go the same way.
1. World Cup Year
Next season sees the big build-up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Barry is in pole position for an England midfield spot.
At the moment he is first choice alongside Steven Gerrard for a central berth but if he leaves Villa he risks losing that place.
If Barry fails to find first team football at a supposedly bigger side then there is no way he will be selected by Fabio Capello and that is something that the ace must consider.
With Villa in vogue nationally, Barry would do well to stay and lead his current side to glory.
