Villa are confident of completing the signing of N'Zogbia when they return from competing in the Barclays Asia Trophy final against Chelsea in Hong Kong.

N'Zogbia is flying back from holiday to undergo a medical after Villa and Wigan reached agreement over a compromise ?9.5million deal.

Villa do not anticipate any problems in that department, with the 25-year-old poised to put pen to paper on a five-year contract next week.

Club record signing Bent will welcome N'Zogbia's arrival after the departures of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.

The duo provided much of the ammunition for his goal return - nine goals in 16 games - during the second half of last season after his ?18million move from Sunderland.

Bent said: "It's been a bit crazy and we've lost two fantastic players.

"If N'Zogbia comes, that will be a fantastic signing for us."

Villa manager Alex McLeish confirmed: "We're arranging a medical for Charles and, pending that, he should be a Villa player next week."

N'Zogbia will become Villa's second signing of the summer after keeper Shay Given moved from Manchester City in a ?3.5million deal.

McLeish will take nothing for granted until N'Zogbia has signed on the dotted line, following the 11th-hour collapse of a move to Birmingham last season when he was in charge at St. Andrew's.

McLeish has indicated N'Zogbia will be his last major signing of the current transfer window.
