Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has laughed off suggestions Wilfred Ndidi is valued at £50m by the club, saying the defensive midfielder is worth "much more."
Ndidi has been the picture of consistency since joining the Foxes from Genk in 2017 and has regularly been linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in the years since. Most recently, Aston Villa has been touted as a potential destination in the summer, with the Midlands club supposedly weighing up a £50m offer.
Head coach Rodgers was pressed on the subject of the Nigeria international's future in his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Danish side Randers in the Europa Conference League.
“He’s been a really important player in my time here," Rodgers said. "You see the importance I give to him in the team. It’s a young team at the moment. His experience helps the players. Wherever I ask him to play, he gives us a great physicality. There are still areas he can improve on. He comes in with a joy to train and learn. He gives us all.
“He seems very settled, he’s moved into a new house. He seems very happy. He’s a pleasure to work with. We hope he’ll be here for a few years."
Asked about Leicester's reported £50m valuation of the 25-year-old, the manager laughed and added: “He’s worth much more than that.”
Speaking in the same press conference, Ndidi also addressed the subject of his future himself, with his contract due to expire in 2024.
“I am enjoying myself in Leicester. My family is here. My business degree is on hold after my daughter was born," he said.
Rodgers also revealed that impressive young centre-back Wesley Fofana is set to return to training following a lengthy injury layoff, adding: "He trains on Friday."
