The former Rangers man made his first appearance of the campaign when playing 45 minutes of last week's second-team game against Chelsea after suffering a knee injury in April.
Villa assistant boss Peter Grant said: "We are delighted Carlos is back and available. He has put in a lot of rehab work.
"He got his rewards by playing that first 45 minutes (against Chelsea reserves) and now he is looking to build on that.
"To have someone available of Carlos' ability is good. He is a top man about the place and a good player who can play in different positions along the back line."
