Centre of attention: Darren Bent enjoys his first day in training with Aston Villa
Bent handed in a transfer request at the Stadium of Light on Sunday before completing his surprise move to Villa Park.
One fan warned: 'Look forward to seeing you return to the Stadium of Light next season, watch your back sunshine.'
Sunderland and Villa are currently at loggerheads after a row exploded over Villa's alleged tapping-up of the England international.
Meanwhile, Villa star Ashley Young has hailed the arrival of Bent as they look to rise up the Barclays Premier League table.
He said: 'Darren will bring a lot to Villa. He scores goals - that's number one in his game - but he brings other attributes too.
Standing firm: Gerrard Houllier is hopeful Bent can lift Villa away from the relegation zone
'But if you do look at his record in front of goal it's very, very impressive - he's the highest scorer behind only Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba.
'It's huge for us. He's a massive signing. Everyone is delighted that the club has been able to pull it off. I think he just wants to get his head down now - get into the training and into the games.
'Obviously I've come across him on international duty and know him really well. He's a top lad. I am sure he will add to what we've got here. He will fit in, no problem.
'It's easy for anyone to fit in at our place because we have a terrific team spirit and a real bond. He'll be comfortable straight away. He's looked sharp already - and he's only had one training session!'
