The 20-year-old midfielder still has three-and-a-half years to run on his existing deal but chairman Doug Ellis is determined to tie him to the club long term. Davis was left out of the starting line-up in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Bolton but he has backed David O'Leary's decision. "You want to play but you also have to look at the bigger picture," he said. "It is a long season so you have to understand if the manager decides to chop and change things around. It can only benefit you by doing that. You can't play every game of the season. You want to play but the manager has a lot of experience of dealing with younger players."
