Delaney limped out of Sundays home victory against Blackburn on Sunday after a challenge with Rovers' youngster James McEveley.

The Welsh international full-back is to see a specialist to assess the full extent of the damage, after learning that he has damaged the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Graham Taylor told www.avfc.co.uk on Tuesday “Clearly it’s a disappointment for Mark and indeed for all of us, given Mark’s previous injury problems this season.

“We are keeping our fingers crossed for better news from the specialist, but the evidence suggests he is likely to be missing for at least a couple of weeks.”
