McLeish managed Birmingham from 2007 to 2011 and left the Blues at the end of last season following their relegation from the Premier League.
The 52-year-old then controversially took over the managerial post at Villa Park, with a section of the club's fans protesting against his appointment.
However, Delfouneso believes that McLeish should not be vilified for his decision and is confident that he will achieve success with Villa.
"His (McLeish's) move from the Blues to Villa is well documented, but it's football and things like this happen in football," he told Sky Sports News.
"It's one of those things in football that you just have to get on with. I am sure that he will do well for the team, bring it together and have a successful season."
Villa began their 2011/12 Premier League campaign with a goalless draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage at the weekend. The Villans are at home to Blackburn this Saturday, and Delfouneso is confident that McLeish will be given a good reception.
"Hopefully, yes (the Villa fans will receive him well)," said the 20-year-old. "The Villa fans are passionate about football, they are passionate about the team and want the best for it.
"I am sure that they will give him (McLeish) a chance - I hope they will give him a chance."
