A late strike by Emile Heskey gave Villa their first away win of the campaign and a first Premiership win under new boss Gerard Houllier.
Heskey rose high above the stationary Wolves defenders to perfectly place his header wide of Hahnemann's reach. It was good work, from Villa as they used a counter attack method ala MON throughout the match. Downing cut across the middle and found Ashley Young just inside the corner of the box. The England forward controlled the ball and laid a pass back to Warnock's feet. It seemed that the pass was a little hard as the left back had to dig the ball out from his legs, but it gave Heskey the time to take up the right position and Warnock's delivery was perfect.
Villa, struggled for the first ten minutes, but slowly began to turn on the heat, with Albrighton giving Ward a torrid time down the right wing.
The away fans were cheering the first goal on 25 minutes. Heskey drove forward into the Wolves area, but ran out of room and forces a pass out to Albrighton. As Albrighton cut to the bye line, Downing was steaming in full speed to the far post with nobody picking him up. Albrighton got the cross in and Downing's task was pretty easy, just tap into the net.
Wolves began to get back into the game and for the last 10 minutes of the half, Molineux was at fever pitch as the home side pressured Villa.
Villa started the second half as they finished the first, getting pushed further back. Every throw in conceded reminded the Villa faithful of Stoke's second half recovery and it was no surprise when the equaliser came on the hour mark. The goal had more than a hint of fortune about it. A deliciously swung in cross by Jarvis was missed by Collins and Doyle. Friedel had to make sure the latter didn't get a touch, so was forced to allow the ball through. Instead of just going inches wide of the post like those crosses tend to do, this one nestled nicely into the net.
The home fans tasted blood and were ready to see their side win, but it was Heskey that stole the show with his 87th minute super header.
