The 34-year-old striker has fallen down the pecking order for a place in the Villa attack but has however deputised admirably as an emergency centre-back at times this season.
Dublin told the Press Association: “It was a situation where a job had to be done.
“Ronny was injured and the gaffer asked me if I wanted to have a go and I said ‘I’ll take a game at any stage of the season’.
“Ideally I’d like to play up front but the forwards are doing well at the moment. I’ll get on with where the boss wants me to play and if it means at the back, I’ll get my head down and do that.
“I’ve played there against Chelsea and now Everton recently and it’s hard work but we did okay.
“It was just nice to be involved. I am still hoping for a future at Aston Villa after this season. Of course I am. It’s just up to me to keep working hard and do my best.”
