Villa's chances of reaching the Carling Cup final for the second successive season ended when they were beaten 2-1 at local rivals Birmingham in Wednesday night's quarter-final tie.
They are also too close to the Barclays Premier League drop zone for comfort and face a testing trip to Liverpool on Monday. Dunne believes another top six finish is still a possibility but knows Villa need to start putting results on the board.
The Republic of Ireland player said: "Getting beaten against your local rivals is disappointing but I think we can walk away and say we gave it a good go.
"We played as well as we have done for a couple of weeks and hopefully things will turn around. Everyone is really low and disappointed. We have to go away now and try to pick ourselves up for Monday.
"Hopefully this is the lowest point of our season and, from here, we can turn it around. We had a good result at Anfield last year so it would be great to get a result to kickstart our season."
