MATCH PREVIEW
It is an oft wheeled out statistic that Everton and Aston Villa have met more times than any other in the top flight. But with just eight games left of this campaign, Villa fans are becoming increasingly worried that it is a fixture that might not be played next season as the club find themselves deep in relegation trouble.
Everybody is concerned because we are not dreamers. There is a new league starting for us of eight games
Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier
Gerard Houllier's tenure as manager has lurched from one crisis to another and his stock amongst the Villa Park faithful dipped to an all-time low when they lost at home to Midlands rivals Wolves. That left them just one point above the drop zone and with a squad said to be riddled with discontent, these are worrying times for the Villans.
Houllier must have looked on with a mixture of pride and envy as his England contingent of Ashley Young, Stewart Downing and Darren Bent sparkled when on the field against Wales and Ghana. He needs to get them replicating that form for Villa, and quick.
They go into Saturday's game at Goodison Park with a superb recent record against Everton, who are hardly having a great season themselves.
But any small relegation fears the Toffees had were crushed by a run of three wins in four games that has lifted David Moyes side up to eighth, and within five points of rivals Liverpool.
