The signings of Alpay Ozalan, Juan Pablo Angel and Bosko Balaban are all being scrutinised by FA compliance officer Graham Bean.
"Along with a number of clubs we can confirm information has been handed over to the FA," said a Villa spokesman. "The material is with regard to foreign transfers made during John Gregory's time as manager.
"Aston Villa wish to make it clear that any assistance will be given to the appropriate authorities in this matter."
