...disappointment based on the fact that he has probably been our most consistently good player for at least the last three seasons. Of course, this is open to debate but there is no denying his contribution to Villa.
All of those that slated Young over the past couple of seasons will certainly notice a difference in the next season, particularly if turncoat Downing is ‘allowed’ to leave.
I’m sure others will join me in wishing Ash all the best, because even though he will be United scum he handled himself in the correct way. He made his intentions clear fairly early on and gave his best for Villa until he was in a position to move. There were no false sentiments of loyalty, like Mr Downing.
(Sorry Downing, but you have antagonised a lot of Villa fans with your recent comments)
What was even more impressive was the way Young thanked Villa in his MUTV interview. He realises that we plucked him from relative obscurity and made him what he is, and it was nice for him to show that gratitude and respect.
When all is said and done, he is correct in saying that the opportunity was just too good to ignore. Ash can obviously see what is going on at VP, and knows that the chances of Champions League football probably walked out of the door with Martin O’Neill.
I was sorry to see Ashley Young go, but he went in the right way and showed the respect owed to Villa. I just hope he doesn’t score against us next season.
