It’s been a long week for Fantasy Premier League owners of Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, after he limped off injured in the thumping 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United last Saturday.
Marco Silva's pre-match press conference didn't provide the definitive answer many were looking for in regards to Mitrovic's fitness, so the time that's been spent considering alternatives has likely been well spent.
It's worth noting that Serbia's involvement in the World Cup - and Mitrovic's desperation to play in it - will likely mean that he's not rushed back to action, unless a full recovery has been made. There's also gameweek 12 to think about - if you're going to replace him, do it now and get ahead of the game before you have to take other players out who don't have a fixture that week (ahem, Erling Haaland).
Should you decide a change is the best course of action, here's our three top picks to consider replacing him with.
Ollie Watkins vs Nottingham Forest (A)
If you have spare funds in the bank, a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins could pay off.
His headline numbers don't exactly set the world alight (one goal and two assists in eight), no, but he has been dodging points in recent games. Most notably in the 0-0 draw with Leeds United last weekend, Watkins led the way for shots in the box, with six.
Aston Villa are in a favourable run of fixtures, facing two promoted sides in their next three games, and come up next against basement boys Nottingham Forest - a side with the worst goal difference of any Premier League side (-15). It’s a golden opportunity for Watkins to deliver.
Dominic Solanke vs Leicester City (H)
For managers with no spare funds in the bank, Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke is the best Mitrovic replacement at a cheaper price. The Cherries striker scored 29 goals in the Championship last season, and has two attacking returns to date this season: one goal and one assist.
It’s been a quiet start to the season for Bournemouth, scoring six goals in eight fixtures. That being said, the Cherries have had a particularly challenging start to the season: they’ve faced Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in their opening spell of games.
The upcoming schedule is more favourable, with Leicester, Fulham and Southampton to come for Solanke - a potential gold mine of points if he finds his shooting boots.
Anthony Martial vs Everton (A)
One big differential who could be worth taking a punt on this week is Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, who scored a brace from the bench in the Manchester derby last time out.
Martial was one of the star performers of pre-season, before injury ruled him out of the opening games of the season, and is clearly a player that new manager Erik ten Hag has a lot of time for - he was the player summoned from the bench at the Etihad, albeit in a lost cause, and not Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Frenchman could be United's first choice penalty taker too, having stepped up ahead of Bruno Fernandes to make the score 6-3 against the reigning Premier League champions.
