Gudjonsson finished his loan spell from the Spanish side with a wonder goal in Villa's final game of the season at Elland Road and now Taylor is hoping a deal can be struck to bring him to Villa Park on a permanent contract.

“He’s just 22 and he’s the sort of player I’d like to work with at Villa Park. He’s shown a willingness to learn and plenty of potential," Taylor told the club's official website.

"We now will be taking it up with Betis. But these things are not always straightforward.

"A fee was expressed when we took him on loan, but I am sure there will be some discussions going on for a little bit.

"We are interested in signing him, but there is still a lot of ground to be covered because we don't know where Betis will be coming from."
