Ipswich manager Paul Jewell is trying to seal a loan deal for Aston Villa defender Habib Beye.

Beye does not feature in Gerard Houllier's plans having failed to earn a start since playing in the Carling Cup victory over Burnley back in October.

And the 33-year-old is keen to put himself in the shop window as he eyes a summer move back to France.

Ipswich have also snubbed a bid from Swansea City to take Jason Scotland on an emergency loan until the end of the season.?

Striker Scotland, 31, was keen to re-sign for the Liberty Stadiumoutfit where he scored more than 50 goals in two seasons but Ipswichhave blocked a possible three-month deal.

Ipswich want their Championship rivals to pay all of the Trinidad and Tobago internationals wages.

But Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said: 'Brendan (Rodgers) had some tentative chats with Ipswich to see if something could be done but nothing has moved on from there.'

But Ipswich boss Paul Jewell insists any temporary deal for former Wigan Athletic striker Scotland, who scored at Barnsley last Saturday, is 'way off'.

Jewell said: 'There's nothing going on as far as I'm concerned. Swansea came back with an offer that wasn't good enough and I'm quite happy to keep Jason here. He is our player.'
