"I may be out of the side at the moment, but I'm not going to sulk," Hitzlsperger told The Birmingham Post.
"I'm not going to complain and say I'm being treated badly.
"Instead, I have to work hard in training and show the gaffer that I really want my place back. I have to do everything I did to get my chance last season.
"Before the Bolton game, Gareth Barry, Lee Hendrie and Mark Kinsella had two good games and deserved to stay in the side.
"But they shouldn't get too comfortable, because I want my place back and I'll do everything I can to force my way back into the side.
"I haven't reached the standards I set last season yet, but I know I can do well in the Premiership and I just have to work hard to impress the manager.
"If you look at the current midfield, both Lee and Gareth both had spells out of the side last year and fought their way back. I can learn from their experiences.
"I also want to learn by playing alongside Mark Kinsella. He played in the World Cup and has a lot of Premiership experience, so he can help me improve my own game.
"First though, I have to get back into action. And that's what I aim to do when I return to Villa Park from international duty with Germany Under-21's."
