It is very early doors, but it is a shame that he is not showing the sparkling form of last season. In what was a grim season last year he was one of the shining lights of the Villa campaign.
With pace and technical ability in abundance, he proved to be a nightmare for opposition defences. His appearances so far this season, however, hint at the fact that he is lacking a bit of confidence.
Looking back over the summer, there can perhaps be an argument put forth that he is putting too much pressure on himself. With the departure of Ashley Young, Albrighton was seen in many interviews showing the ambition and desire to step into Ashley's boots on the Villa wing. That, many thought, would be an excellent fit.
Last season there was nothing expected of him, so he was free from the burden of responsibility. This season, however, perhaps a bit of self-exerted pressure to live up to Ashley Young is getting the better of him.
Advice for Albrighton would be to forget about taking Young's place. Forget about having to carry a certain responsibility for 'stepping up' on someone else's pedestal. Play as you did last year, and you will exceed those expectations without having to worry about them.
He will undoubtedly be a prized asset for the team this year, once he unburdens himself of Ashley Young's Villa legacy.
