Pascal Chimbonda is the latest name to be linked with the Claret and Blue. It has been reported that he may join Jermain Defoe in a double deal from Spurs, which could cost £15m.
Chimbonda's name was bound to be touted as the Frenchman is currently unhappy at White Hart Lane and Villa could be without a first team right back if Olof Mellberg decides to join Juventus earlier than planned.
Spurs signed Chimbonda in the summer prior to last season after he enjoyed a fantastic first Premier League campaign with Wigan. He was a virtual unknown when picked up by Paul Jewell, but soon rose to prominence with some superb defensive and attacking displays.
The right back could be an ideal candidate for Villa if Mellberg leaves and it is likely the Claret and Blue would be able to buy him for around the £6m mark. This would be seen as somewhat of a bargain considering the player was linked with a £12m move to Chelsea not so long ago.
The link to Jermain Defoe is nothing new for Villa fans as the striker has been linked with the club since the start of the season. However, if a double deal is completed it could prove cheaper than buying the players individually and also add depth to two thread-bare areas of the squad at the same time.
