President Jean-Michel Aulas was quoted in L'Equipe as saying the Czech striker's arrival "is imminent and will be nothing more than a matter of hours", which would free more money for Martin O'Neill's coffers with the transfer window closing in just over a week. Lyon coach Gerard Houllier confirmed he had made an inquiry for Baros, who played under him at Liverpool, on Friday and Bernard Lacombe, a special advisor to Aulas, fuelled speculation when he subtly hinting: "Without being able to say with precision, I think in the next 72 hours, Baros should be at Lyon, without doubt on Monday or Tuesday."
The 25-year-old Baros has scored once in 17 league appearances for Villa this season, and is struggling to find his form. But with Karim Benzema and Sylvain Wiltord expected to be out for some time, and John Carew reportedly attracting interest from Werder Bremen - another side that have enquired about Baros in recent weeks - Lyon need to strengthen if they are to continue their march to a fifth consecutive title.
