Newcastle have completed the permanent signing of Matt Targett from Aston Villa.
The left-back joined the Magpies on loan in January, alongside the likes of Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes who also moved to St James' Park in the same month.
Targett is the first signing of the summer for Newcastle and he has penned a four-year contract with the Magpies, who have paid £15m with £3m deducted for the loan fee they paid in January.
"I'm absolutely delighted to sign a four-year contract with this club," Targett said. "For me, it was an easy decision to make the loan permanent after the welcome I had from my fellow players, the staff, the supporters and the owners so I'm really happy to be here."
Manager Eddie Howe added: "Matt had a fantastic impact after joining on loan in January and made a big contribution to some excellent team performances.
"He is a great lad and a top professional who undoubtedly makes us stronger so I'm delighted he sees his future here."
Targett was a regular feature in a Newcastle defence that impressed following the turn of the year as they eased their relegation fears under Howe to finish 11th in the Premier League.
