Villa are almost certain to have a 50 per cent new midfield in place for next season.
With Steve Sidwell set to replace the departing Gareth Barry, the right side position is next to be thrown into the spotlight.
And Villa could just have found the solution to their problems - David Bentley.
The Blackburn winger has made it clear he wants to leave Rovers and could be available for around £15 million.
The Claret and Blue expect to recoup that when Barry moves to Liverpool meaning Bentley is within range.
Although the midfielder wants Champions League football he could be sold by the fact Villa are progressing towards that very target.
A midfield of Ashley Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Steve Sidwell and Bentley sounds exciting and they are all fine England prospects.
The signing of Sidwell alone would not be enough to appease Villa fans who don't want their captain to leave for Liverpool.
But if Bentley entered the fold it would be a different story.
The former Arsenal youngster is a player of immense talent and would be a real coup.
Whether Villa could match his demands is another matter but if you don't try you don't buy.
