“Success initially will be to improve on last season. But I haven’t come here to fiddle around near the bottom of the Premiership," the new Villa boss told the clubs official website.
"I played at the top and I want to manage at the top.
“My aim is to put Villa back where they belong — in the top six. But that is easier said than done.
"The table doesn’t lie and this club finished three points above West Ham last season," he added.
“Even though my old club Leeds had a torrid time and one of their worst seasons for years, they still finished above Villa. That tells you the job to be done here, which will take some doing and a while to do it. There is no quick-fix.”
