"Now his knee problem has cleared up, he's spending some well earned time with his wife and kids," the Villa boss told the clubs official website.
"We'll speak to him again when he comes back to prepare for the new season. Hopefully then we can get things tied-up.
"The way it sounds to me, he wants to play out the rest of his career at Aston Villa. He says he's never been so happy.
"I think that's great news for the fans who come in and pay their money, who adore him. It's great news for me and I have a good relationship with him. We've got a player that wants to sign and it's really in the club's hands now."
