The right-back reportedly has growing concerns over the lack of progress made regarding a new long-term deal with the club. O’Leary met with Delaney’s agent on Tuesday but dismissed the need for any urgency as the player still has 15 months remaining on his current contract.
With only another year apparently on offer, the 28-year-old has said that he will reconsider his future in Birmingham if he does not secure his long-term future. However, O’Leary remains unflustered by the situation. “I can’t understand what all the fuss is about,” he told Sky Sports. “We had a general chat but Mark has 15 months left of his current contract and the club has an option for another year so there is hardly any need to rush.”
Delaney has been a key figure for Villa this season when not on the sidelines, filling in at centre-half early on in the campaign, although not particularly convincingly.
