Patience is a virtue

Martin O'Neill has urged fans to be patient in the search for new players.
Unfortunately, we've heard it all before!
How many summers have gone by when we have let more players go than we've signed?
How many managers have constantly stated throughout the season that we need new recruits because our squad is threadbare?
How many times have we believed that we are destined to fill the squad with top class players?
We must react in a positive fashion this summer if we are to even consider challenging for a Champions League place.
We have already witnessed the departures of Olof Mellberg, Tommy Sorensen, Luke Moore and Patrik Berger.
Yet again we have sold before buying. The typical problem is we sell and then can't force anyone else to.

False

Take January for example.
We sold Gary Cahill for £5 million and brought in a solitary signing in the form of winger Wayne Routledge.
How many times has he figured? Once (A five minute cameo against
Bolton)!
What of Cahill? Well, he flourished at the Reebok and kept the Trotters clear of relegation.
Villa meanwhile suffered the loss of Curtis Davies to a long term injury.
We know you can't predict the future Martin, but you must have a contingency plan.
This sounds like a rant - it is in a way - but I don't want to detract from the amazing effort that we saw from Villa last season.
A top six finish is a fantastic achievement, but we all want to push on don't we?
Maybe patience is the key, but there must be a sterling end product this time rather than another false dawn.
