The former Arsenal midfielder has accepted a six-month contract which will make him Villa manager Gerard Houllier's first signing when finalised.
The 37-year-old has been a free agent since his release by Villarreal in the summer and has been training with Arsenal for the past two months.
Pires told Sky Sports News he hopes to be involved in Sunday's match at Blackburn, saying: "I think so, on the bench. I hope so."
He is looking forward to his role in Houllier's squad, adding: "I spoke with Gerard at the weekend. Like me he is very happy because...he needs me, I need you.
"The team is young. I think it is a good mix."
