Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year deal that will keep him at Villa Park until 2013.
Petrov, 29, was named Players' Player of the Year and Fans' Player of the Year earlier this month illustrating just how important the Bulgarian has been to the team this season.
The former Celtic lynchpin struggled on his arrival in England in 2006 but he has battled back to restore the fans' and his manager's faith in him.
Stan, as he is affectionately known, has been hugely effective playing a deep midfield role throughout this campaign which has allowed Gareth Barry more freedom going forward.
With Barry's future up in the air, it was perceived that Petrov would not sign a new deal until his midfield partner had decided on whether or not to leave Villa this summer.
But, much to the delight of fans of the Claret and Blue, their man of the season has forgotten about Barry's issues and firmly focused on making a successful future for himself at the club.
