The Dutch goalkeeper has been on the transfer list since before Christmas and the 28-year-old is keen to move on. "The club have said they will offer Stefan more money if he stayed as Thomas' deputy, the player’s agent Piet Buter said. "But we have explained that it is nothing to do with money. He wants the chance to play first-team games now."
Buter claimed that several clubs would be interested in signing Postma, a £1.5m-signing from De Graafschap in the summer of 2002 and as Villa will be reluctant to allow Postma to leave for nothing next summer, they could look to move him on at the end of this season. Buter said: "There are four or five Dutch clubs interested in Stefan - but he will be too expensive for them - and there could be clubs in England as well.”
Postma's decision seems perfectly acceptable after his first team opportunities have been severely limited by David O’Leary’s dog-like devotion to Thomas Sørenson. The Dutch keeper’s only start this season was a man-of-the-match performance against a rampant Arsenal at Highbury in October. But despite keeping the score down to 3-1, Sø renson was back in them starting eleven the next match after recovering from injury as O’Leary rolled over for a tickle on the tummy from the Great Dane.
