The corpulent goalkeeper injured his knee in training before the final game of the season at Liverpool and while early indications suggested it is not long term, he is faces a race to be fit for the start of next season else Wayne Henderson is likely to settle into his ample grooves on the Villa bench.
“Things have been going really well,” the former Netherlands Under-21 said. “I’m in Utrecht, working on my fitness every day in the physic centre. I’m doing all I can to get back. It’s hard work and the amount of running I’m doing will probably see me return as the fittest goalkeeper in history!” he continued, convincing nobody. “I’m not optimistic about being fit for the start of pre-season, but we’ll wait and see.”
Vicious rumours of a DVD-related injury are thus far unproven.
