Ratings from the rout

Last updated : 20 April 2008 By Tom Vickers

Scott Carson 6

Had no saves to make and again his ratio reads one shot to one goal conceded.

Wilfred Bouma 7

Typically committed on a day when desire was the key. Didn't get forward as much as usual but kept it simple to let the midfield men shine.

Martin Laursen 7

Snuffed out the few attacks that Blues had but will be disappointed not to have claimed a clean sheet.

Zat Knight 7

Heading was wayward at times but another defender who just focussed on providing the attacking players with the ball.

Olof Mellberg 8

Strong at right back once again and went off to a deserved standing ovation from the admiring Holte End.

Ashley Young 10

Villa-MAD Man of the Match - Involved in everything and is clearly loving his roaming free role. Blues couldn't pick him up and he ran them ragged as well as providing some dangerous deliveries.

Gareth Barry 9

Skipper took control in the middle of the park and was first to every ball. Villa must do everything they can to keep the inspirational skipper.

Stiliyan Petrov 8

Is enjoying a new lease of life. Where is the player who was afraid to go forward? This Petrov shot from everywhere and was intricate in the centre.

Nigel Reo-Coker 8

Out-battled and out-fought the Blues players. Was given a right midfield role and he broke up almost every Blues attack with ease. Kept it simple.

John Carew 9

Fantastic performance from the big man. He is not called the hulk for no reason and his long legs often got the better of the Blues back line. Just too strong.

Gabby Agbonlahor 8

Continually outpaced the Blues rigid defence and grabbed another goal which keeps his morale up for the game at Everton.

Substitutes

Marlon Harewood for Mellberg (82) - Not enough time to grab his standard goal.
