Stone was told by Taylor that he could leave Villa Park at the end of last season and since then has been frozen out of the club's first team plans apart from one appearance in the Intertoto Cup.
But Stone feels he is as good as anyone Taylor has at the club, "To be told I could leave was hard to take because I've never been told that before," he said.
"Throughout my career I've been given contract after contract without having to think about it.
"But then all of a sudden I'm told that I'm not wanted.
"Everyone has to have a goal and mine is to get back in there. I have to put myself in a position so that the manager can pick me," said Stone.
"The manager wants to play his own team. It's up to him but I still feel I can bring something to the club. I'm now ready to give it a good shot."
Stone, who cost Villa £5.5 million from Nottingham Forest, added: "Everyone has to have a goal and mine is to get back in there. I have to put myself in a position so that the manager can pick me.
"The manager has gone out and bought players and so he's going to play them but I think I'm good as anyone he has got.
"He's not spoken to me. I think he's letting me get on with it, get my fitness right and get my head down."
