Gudjonsson has initially signed on loan from Real Betis for the remainder of the season but Villa have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer and Taylor is hoping the Villa board of directors can find the estimated £2million it will need to sign him permanently.

Taylor said: "It will be a test of the club now because we've only had Joey two games but in my view he's the type of player we should be finding the money to buy.

"We have an option to buy him at the end of the season and I'm hoping that nothing stands in the way of us making this a permanent deal.

"We have an option to buy him for a certain fee and I don't think we'll have any option but to meet that fee if he keeps playing like this.

"If he does keep performing as he is, then I'm sure everyone will want him and he's already had two standing ovations from Villa fans which is good because it helps him to make feel wanted.

"He's only 22, has got good energy, is a good passer and I really hope he can be with us for a long time."
