Petrov was forced off with a hamstring problem at half-time to add his name to an ever-increasing injury list. Villa's plight was then summed up when Hughes and Mellberg collided as they looked to block Jermain Defoe, but Martin O'Neill is optimistic they will all be in contention for the trip to the Valley. "Olof's knee's a bit swollen but he's feeling a lot better than he did at half-time," he said. "We'll see how they are in a couple of days."
The injury list lengthens
Chris Sutton is also likely to return after recovering from blurred vision sustained in the loss to Manure but Gavin McCann is still doubtful with a hamstring knock. Stuart Taylor, Thomas Sorensen, Martin Laursen, Mark Delaney (all knee) and Luke Moore (shoulder) remain sidelined.
