Tottenham have joined Aston Villa in the race for Uruguay international Rodrigo Bentancur, and have made an offer of €30m plus bonuses to Juventus.
Spurs look to have missed out on primary targets Adama Traore and Luis Diaz late in the January transfer window, with the former heading to Barcelona and the latter to Liverpool.
Pressure is on managing director of football Fabio Paratici to provide head coach Antonio Conte with reinforcements after the Tottenham boss urged the club to 'do something' this window.
And Paratici has been busy eyeing players from his former club Juve. Spurs are in talks with the Bianconeri over an initial loan deal for Dejan Kulusevski, and Gianluca Di Marzio reports that they have also made an offer for Bentancur.
Juventus completed the €75m signing of Dusan Vlahovic on Saturday evening and are now looking to also bring in Borussia Monchengladbach and Switzerland midfielder Denis Zakaria before the transfer deadline, opening the door for Bentancur's exit.
The 24-year-old has also been the subject of interest from Aston Villa, with Juve knocking back a €25m bid earlier this week.
Spurs' approach for Bentancur comes with the club open to the departures of Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso before the end of the window.
Ndombele is close to sealing a loan move to PSG, while Lo Celso has become of interest to Lyon in the last 24 hours.
Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is also expected to join Tottenham on an initial loan deal if they are able to shift Ndombele, Dele or Lo Celso before Monday's deadline.
