Cahill had looked set to make his Premiership debut against Portsmouth at the weekend but was withdrawn and it had been suggested that he was omitted after failing to agree new terms, but Tubbs has denied this. "As Villa manager I want to secure his future and see whether he will make it and be a good player for the football club," he said on Villa's official website.. "Gary felt that, with lacking match practice and with the contract thing in his head, he wasn't right to play."
Cahill has 14 months remaining on his contract at Villa Park and Tubbs has high hopes for the 20-year-old, saying: "He's got a good chance, without a doubt. He's done well on loan] at Burnley. He showed great potential. We want to get the lad signed but what he's asking for and what the club are offering are two different figures."
