"Darius had to have a couple of days off before the game as we have had a bug going through the club," Graham Taylor said after the 2-1 defeat at Goodison.
"As far as I was concerned, it was far better to have Darius on the bench to bring him on rather than on the pitch to take him off.
"With all due respect to supporters, and I am not being critical of them, they cannot know all the ins and and outs of what goes on."
