Villa appear to have missed out on the signing of Italian right back Christian Maggio.
The £8m rated defender who is co-owned by Sampdoria and Fiorentina has apparently signed for AC Milan.
Villa have been trailing Maggio for some time and had hoped he would fill the right back void left by Olof Mellberg's departure to Juventus.
Maggio enjoyed a fantastic campaign in the season just gone as he scored an amazing nine goals in 29 games for Sampdoria.
That record shows attack is Maggio's best form of defence but unfortunately it looks like Villa fans won't be witnessing his offensive instinct at their club.
It's another blow for Martin O'Neill who would appear to need at least seven or eight new signings as four players have already departed this summer.
The squad now looks more threadbare than ever but it appears moves are being made to rectify the situation.
