Villa kicked off their pre-season campaign with an easy win in Switzerland.
Martin O'Neill's men put six goals past FC Wil 1900 without reply.
Marlon Harewood (2), John Carew, Nathan Delfouneso, Shaun Maloney and Wayne Routledge were all on the score sheet.
O'Neill had said the performance was the most important thing and he wasn't disappointed.
Wayne Routledge and Moustapha Salifou were particularly impressive in the rout as they aimed to prove they are able to step up from reserve level.
The game also provided a chance for youngsters Eliot Parish, Marc Albrighton, Sam Williams and Delfouneso to play alongside first team regulars.
They didn't let the side down and they may even be given a chance at some point during the new campaign.
Next up for Villa is a fixture against FC Zurich on Saturday which is set to be a tougher test for the team.
