Villa's strike partnership became England's top two for an evening as the Three Lions took on Spain in Seville.
Gabby Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey both played well in a first half that saw Fabio Capello's men concede a sloppy goal thanks to a Phil Jagielka mistake.
Gareth Barry also earned a starting role but James Milner, Ashley Young and Curtis Davies all failed to make an appearance as Capello used them to warm the bench.
Fernando Llorente scored a second for the European champs, who extended their unbeaten run to 29 games.
The game, which was dubbed Villa Vs Spain, failed to live up to expectations with not all of the Claret and Blue men making the first XI.
But, Agbonlahor and Barry were determined to make an impression and the two combined early on. Barry crossed for his club teammate who could only volley wide.
Heskey caused problems for the Spanish defence but unfortunately for England he was no more than a nuisance and a cutting edge was lacking.
But, the Villa strike duo will have benefitted from the experience and the opportunity to get one more half together under their belts.
