Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock believes the team will emerge stronger after this season's near-misses.
Villa reached the final of the Carling Cup and the FA Cup semi-finals before narrowly missing out on qualification for the Champions League, finishing sixth in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old told AVTV: "I think it has been successful. I think it has been disappointing at times, where you get to Wembley and you don't get the rub of the green.
"Those things happen. But hopefully they will make the group stronger as a team and we'll come back and hopefully get to a final next year and win it.
"As for fourth place, I think we probably just drew a few too many games here and there and I think having the knowhow of turning them into victories will hopefully stand us in good stead for next year."
