Villa went into the weekend programme only three points above the Barclays Premier League relegation zone and looking to bounce back from the Carling Cup exit against Birmingham. Villa boss Gerard Houllier has had to contend with up to a dozen senior players being ruled out since he took charge three months ago.
But Warnock insists there is still enough quality in the squad to achieve positive results and he said: "Why are we down there? It is not down to injuries. There is enough quality in the squad to go and get results. You've got to look at it and wonder why you are down there. You have got to worry, of course, you've got to worry."
He added: "No-one wants to be down in those bottom places and we are no different to anyone else.
"We are not used to be being down there. We are used to being at the top and fighting for Europe.
"It will be interesting to see how the lads bounce back. There are a lot of big characters in the changing room so hopefully it won't be for too long.
"There is a lot of experienced players on the field. There is a mix at the moment and it's trying to get that balance.
"The young lads are learning all the time and it's tough for them because you don't get time in this league."
